About The Archives

about us | clients | pictures of the archives | chronology

The Archives is dedicated to preserving, restoring and presenting timeless works of photography.

We are a small company who has inherited an old and rare history . . .a collection of thousands of images consisting of fashion, beauty and personalities representative of photographer, Milton H. Greene (1922-1985).

The name and reputation of Milton H. Greene as a significant art photographer of the 20th Century is widely known throughout the world. Milton was someone who was in the limelight and whose work generated interest and fame in the midst of many worlds that were connected through the lens of his camera. Milton’s photography traced the passage of an era through the world of Hollywood and Fashion.

The pages of Look, Life, Town and Country, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue were filled with Milton’s classic fashion photographs and unforgettable portraits of our beloved artists, musician, film, television and theatrical celebrities, which have become legendary. Milton was one of the preeminent photographers in the world and is credited for bringing fashion photography into the realm of fine art.

Milton H. Greene’s son, Joshua, created The Archives in 1994 as a way of honoring his father’s vast body of work, which had until now been largely unavailable since his father’s death in 1985. The Archives is currently building a comprehensive, digital resource that uses advanced restorative technology to recover the clarity and integrity of these vintage images.

Over the last 2 years The Archives has been beta testing Hewlett Packard’s UV Inks. This relationship has grown very close and Joshua Greene is committed to successfully reproducing photographic images as fine art on the Designjet 5000PS UV printer made by Hewlett Packard on Hahnemühle media that will last over 200 years. This combination has been nicknamed ‘The HP Solution’.

The Archives – is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of photography and is currently also working with the Estates of Art Kane and David Sutton. The Archive's interests are to work with collections, institutions or individuals who have precious photography.
